Flat Roof Insulation

One of the most daunting problems related to setting up a durable and long-lasting building is its roof, which is most vulnerable to seasonal corrosion and daily wear and tear. Ensuring the maintenance of any regular roof has been a nightmare for both the house owners as well as the contractors. The invention of flat roof insulation has turned out to be a boon for them. Flat roof insulation can be quite a complicated process and hence, professional help is advisable. There are various ways to insulate a roof. Attempting to insulate between a ceiling and a rafter – It is common knowledge that air always moves in a haphazard way in a limited flat space. Therefore, there is a higher probability of moisture getting trapped in that space. This causes much damage because of the difficulty in ventilating such spaces. Hence, instead of attempting to put up any sort of ventilator, you should try to secure the entire cavity by filling it up with densely packed cellulose. Instead of cellulose, spray foam can also be effectively used to put up a 4 or 5 inch deep seal all around it.   External roof insulating – This is the most popular method of insulating the roofs of commercial buildings and is also sometimes used for residential houses. The foam board, usually placed on the exterior roof of a building, is unable to resist moisture for a long period of time. To achieve a permanently waterproof roof, you should layer the outer surface of this foam board with a strong adhesive. Finally, attach a covering made of rubber on the board at secure it on top of your roof.   Ceiling insulation – This is a method, least recommended by technicians and engineers. This is because opting for this method would mean that you have to lose about 4 inches of ceiling height and no one can probably benefit by that! Moreover, you would have to face a lot of problems when it comes to setting up all the wires and lights inside your building. This is why, when it comes to residential insulation, experts tend to avoid ceiling insulation. Regulations regarding roof insulation To ensure that the manufacturers and contractors do not take any undue advantage, on flat roof insulation quotes, the Federal Trade Commission came up with rule of the R-value. This rule is based on the term in mathematics known as R-factor. The R-factor measures the capability of any insulation material to withstand heat transfer. It is measured by an experiment in the laboratory involving two plates and an apparatus. By the help of the apparatus, the intensity of heat flow between the two plates can be measured, through insulation. R-Value is defined as the product of the R-factor (of the insulation material) and the quantity of the material. Hence, if you assume the R-factor of an insulation material to be 3.8 and the insulation between the cold side and the warm side of an assembly amounts to 3.5 inches, the ultimate R-value of the insulation of the entire system would be 13.3. This rule has proved to be very important in countering the frauds going on in the insulation industry and for setting up the regulations for customer rights.
